“I think therefore I am”. Rene Descartes

Inside of us all lies the need to create & express our existence, from caves adorned with drawings of the first men to high end art galleries and modern art, music, film, stage, comedy, photography, architecture, fashion, literature, engineering and everything else we produce & influence all leave a record of our creativity & imagination.

All too often through failings in our society the artist within and creative nature of us as humans is shelved and put aside to allow us to conform with social norms that our educational institutions, government, occupations, lifestyles & neighbourhoods impose on us. We all start life as budding artists intrigued with our environment and yet over time are dissuaded from creating due to the competitive methodology of our institutions, instead of celebrating individual thought and expression our teachers, families & piers judge and rank our abilities, gradually chipping away at our collective self esteem, belief and identity, in the same way they suffered, until we are all like each other and afraid to express ourselves. Instead our sole focus seems to be ultimately blending in to the grey. Few of us; “the artists” stay true to their nature and despite everything been against them continue to create, yet as humans we are all artists, it is intrinsic to our existence to create and express ourselves and yet so many of us deny this fundamental human need to their own and all of humanities loss. Imagine a planet of budding creative humans all celebrating the unique and miraculous existence of us all, our planet and all the other life forms we share it with would undoubtedly benefit and it would be a better world for everything and everyone to live & experience.

For this project Creative Nature I aim to capture on digital photo, print and thoughts the intentional creative projects we undertake as a homage to the artist and creative process, but deeper than that I aim to capture the little snippets of our creative nature that shine through and happen to every day people in everyday places for the most part quite unintentionally. Highlighting the little actions of spontaneous creativity that seep out from the constraints of our daily lives and reveal themselves in plain sight yet are mostly overlooked.

I hope you enjoy seeing the creative pieces of this project as much as I have enjoyed searching & witnessing these, both in art galleries and exhibitions along with everyday places. Together we can pay homage to the artist, to our nature & to humanity and hopefully tap into our own creative natures and ourselves do something creative which may inspire us all.
